The world has witnessed numerous disasters both man-made and nature and have people homeless without shelter. Disastrous events interrupt people’s lives with little warning. No matter what their situation, a disaster will reduce individuals to their most basic needs and millions of people are in need of temporary shelter after each occurrence of disaster. The basic requirement for temporary shelter must cover to protect, clean, and fit to live in for people during disaster periods until they can move back to their own homes. The conceptual design for temporary shelter must be easily set up, portable, dismantled, store for future use, contain 1 units appropriate for 4-5 people, which is current Thai household size, and it can be arranged as communities. The literature review on shelter, past work and papers by various academics, can be categorized as for both normal and floating shelters and they are taken from those that have been used in the real situations. Each case study has proved to be very benefited towards the research of new and traditional construction techniques. The most important derivation from each case study is the unit being established and there is some standard which can be simplified it to a group of units. The rural areas are underdeveloped with insufficient infrastructure. These are issues to create the prototype that is originated from the material makeup of each case study and how the material is incorporated into the design.
