Bang Khun Thian: Past Present Future

“BKT: Past Present Future | Bang Khun Thian: Past Present Future”

On February 1, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the School of Architecture and Design (SoA+D) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) hosted a seminar titled “BKT: Past Present Future” at the TCDC Bangkok Resource Center (4th Floor). The event focused on the pivotal role of design and architecture in addressing long-term environmental crises.

The discussion reframed architecture and design not merely as aesthetic pursuits, but as essential “tools” for mitigating Slow Onset Scenarios (SOS)—gradual disasters that pose significant long-term threats to the environment and coastal communities.

Environmental Challenges in Bang Khun Thian: The seminar addressed the critical issues of coastal erosion and rising sea levels currently affecting the Bang Khun Thian district.

The Designer’s Role: Panelists explored how professional architectural knowledge can be leveraged to observe, analyze, and implement practical solutions to these environmental shifts.

Interactive Dialogue: The session concluded with a Q&A segment, inviting both on-site attendees and online viewers to contribute questions and exchange perspectives on the future of sustainable coastal management.
