Bangkhuntien Shelter/Pavilion [Design & Build]
From Idea to Reality: Student’s Shelters Transform KMUTT, Bang Khun Thian!

The SoA+D campus at Bang Khun Thian has recently been buzzing with creativity and hands-on construction!

We are proud to showcase the successful completion of the ARC 141 Architectural Design I Project 2: Bangkhuntien Shelter/Pavilion [Design & Build], led by Asst. Prof. Kisnaphol Wattanawanyoo and his dedicated team and two honorary guests. From February 5 – March 12, 2026, our first-year architecture students stepped out of the studio and onto the field to bring their designs to life.

6 Strategic Sites, 12 Unique Visions
Students constructed small unique shelters/pavilions across various campus locations, including the Academic zone, Canteen walkway, Mangrove Learning Area, Pier No. 3, and the Sports Center. The task of this project is to design a shelter/pavilion that embodies a creative concept while addressing the fundamental principles of architectural design. Students are encouraged to work in team (4-5 members/team) to explore the notion and relationship of public space and social space, but still maintain degrees of privacy for various users and activities. This project also invites students to have the opportunity to work with real users, site, structure and construction materials.

The Grand Finale
The project culminated in a high-stakes Final Presentation on Thursday, March 12. Twelve teams presented their hard work, defending their concepts and structural choices right at the construction sites.

Congratulations to all the groups—from Team August to Team Vince—for their grit, teamwork, and architectural spirit!
