FEAU Summer Workshop (Five East Asian Universities) is an on-going international workshop among five universities in Asia. It’s a continuing rotational workshop with host university rotates annually. In conjunction with the workshop, the faculty exhibition is held each year to share most up-to-date academic endeavors and research works. Each year, host university announces the theme, site, and program of the FEAU Summer Workshop.
This year it is KMUTT’s turn (and first time) to organize this FEAU workshop in Bangkok, Thailand. Therefore, it is a good opportunity for students and instructors to benefit from the international activities and thus could promote the FEAU’s recognition in the international scene. The theme of this year workshop is “Bangkok Old Town Waterways Revitalization”. The selected sites are the two important urban canals (or khlong) that have some underdeveloped and decaying areas along the canals within the old historic urban core.
The total participating students are about 50. The workshop groups are typically between 5-7 students (at least one student from each university). Students from five universities are mixed to pull out cross-cultural design ideas and solutions. Eventually each group will come up with architectural and urban programs and design solutions that would regenerate/revitalize the designated dilapidated urban area. On the final presentation day, professors from five universities provide critical reviews to the student group works/outputs.
SoA+D, KMUTT hopefully wish that this year summer workshop will provide another great opportunity for both students and instructors, professors to extend further academic exchange and cultural relationship amongst the participants, as well as to strengthen this on-going international collaboration and network in the future to come.
