Ms. Suttahathai Niyomwas, alumna in Architecture program (Class 2018) of School of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), won the ” Worldwide Best Bachelor’s Thesis Project” in Unfuse International Architecture Thesis Award (UnIATA 2020). Her design work is entitled “Hat Yai Multicultural Bonding”. Moreover, Pengcheng Sun, Shunfan Zheng & Jichao Sun from Harvard Graduate School of Design (USA) won the “Worldwide Best Master’s Thesis Project” with their work entitled “Loop Within”. Several universities across the globe such as USA, Italy, Russia, China, India, etc. participated in this competition. Congratulations to the winners!

Suttahathai Niyomwas described the concept of her thesis, Hat Yai Multicultural Bonding, based on “What is the identity of Hat Yai” (one of the cities in southern Thailand). This project aims to create a space that will make people recognize their identity and open up to the differences of beliefs and culture that help them realize what the city already has in order to help re-make the identity of the city in the future.

“The beginning of initiating this project was that I was born and raised in Hat Yai, living there for more than ten years. I think that, if we can understand the city as much as possible, we would like to design an architecture that can play a role in the context of the city. Also, we can create something new for the community. From the thesis topics of interest, those of us who do not know what the building will be shape it from the research and analysis for a full term under the supervision of Ms. Sunaree Lawanyawatna, lecturer in Architecture program at the School of Architecture and Design. This final result was given. It is the strength of our school.”, Suttahathai Niyomwas said.
