Exploring Creativity Before the Semester Begins!
These are some of incoming first-year students’ works in the Design Preparation Course, which began on June 29, 2026. Offered during the summer break, the course provides student with an opportunity to explore design practice and develop essential skills before starting their studies at SoA+D.
Over the course of approximately three weeks (ending on July 24), the students were divided into four groups and alternated through four stations. Each group would spend four days at a station before moving on to the next, completing all four stations by the end of the course. Every station introduced a series of hands-on activities designed to build foundational skills and culminated in a small group project on the fourth day. The stations and their facilitators are as follows:
*Bamboo and Rattan Wickerwork with Asst. Prof. Nantana Boonla-or and Su Lae Yadanar and DI students’ team
*Let’s Wood with Pongsak Tawankanjanachot and Ekarine Wongvisut
*Communication: Visual Exploration with Bhuree Jiwaluk
*Fundamental of Fabrication (Fun of Lab) with Tanakorn Suthiapa, Kanapod Joradol and Lin Phone Phyo Aung
“Design Preparation Course is a course primarily geared towards providing incoming freshmen students of the School of Architecture & Design an opportunity to experience a smooth transition to design studies. It is carefully designed to develop crucial transferable skills and to cultivate favorable attitudes that support students in their study at SoA+D.”
