SoA+D Hosts Academic Visit and Public Lecture on Coastal Architecture
From 16–19 June 2025, the School of Architecture and Design, KMUTT hosted the academic visit of Prof. Dr. Johannes Widodo from the National University of Singapore, focusing on coastal architecture and vernacular settlements in Thailand.
Prof. Dr. Johannes Widodo conducted the field explorations across Bang Khun Thian coastal communities and the salt-farming landscapes of Samut Sakhon. The activities included cycling through coastal settlements, boat-based observations, and on-site studies of vernacular fishing communities, traditional coastal housing, and historic built environments. Also, a representative from Shma Design (landscape architecture design firm) joined the trip.
On June 19, Prof. Dr. Johannes Widodo also delivered a public lecture titled “Culture, Coastal Communities, and Sustainable Architecture,” sharing long-term perspectives on Southeast Asian coastal environments and adaptive settlement systems. The program also included academic presentations and contributions from KMUTT faculty members.
The Dean of SoA+D, Asst. Prof. Waraluk Pansuwan, attended the lecture and presented a gift to Prof. Dr. Johannes Widodo in appreciation of his contribution. This academic visit has strengthened international collaboration and enriched ongoing research on coastal transformation, vernacular architecture, and resilient settlement futures.
