SoA+D Joins Asia-Link Outbound International Design Workshop 2025 in Tokyo
From July 31 to August 7, 2025, 15 Design Innovation students from the School of Architecture and Design (SoA+D) participated in the Asia-Link Outbound International Design Workshop 2025 at Shibaura Institute of Technology (Toyosu Campus) in Tokyo, Japan.
Accompanied by Mr. Pattarapol Chantkam (Design Innovation Lecturer) the SoA+D students worked with peers from Shibaura Institute of Technology (Japan), Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), and the University of Ulsan (South Korea).
(Brief background)
This 11th International Design Workshop and Fieldtrip Program aims to provide undergraduate design students and academic staff to extend their knowledge in design methodology and process, as they get involved in culture-related projects. Students will learn to conduct research, identify social issues and cultural differences, and explore how the design-discipline can help provide solutions to the issue using interdisciplinary approach. With strong engineering and design-based curricula at SIT, PSU and UOU, students and lecturer from KMUTT’s Design Innovation program can learn and benefit from those disciplines.
This workshop focuses on the term “Wabi Sabi”, which embraces beauty in imperfection. With today’s modern technologies and know-how, designs can be created in very perfect ways. Over the course of a week, each group will propose a new product or service incorporating digital technologies to appeal to their generation.
Students will conduct research, observations and field trips in the city to deeply understand the topic. Under all professors’ expertise and guidance, the workshop will be conducted using industrial design processes combined with advanced technologies, UX/UI design and sustainable design principles. The knowledge and viewpoints gained from the workshop will be valuable resources for Thai design students in new product development for Thai markets.
