Conceptual Design:
With the ever-increasing impacts of climate change experienced globally, Naga City is battling a range of threats from frequent storms and floods to longer dry seasons leading to draughts. Amongst these acute shocks, the city is already facing increasing stress from the growing population of urban poor and degradation of its fertile agricultural green fields to rapid development. This design research looks into the core factors of these acute shocks and chronic stresses to visualize the sustainable development with the “Fill the Gap” concept to provide sustainable housing, agrarian livelihood, and water management for flood mitigation by revitalizing the existing informal settlements and utilizing the empty landlocked properties in the urban area to stop the sprawl. This study shows how realistically the five key components of this design solution with its features together may hold the key to lock the potential of successfully making Naga City a resilient place to live.
