The Asia-Link Outbound International Design Workshop 2026 brought together participants from six universities: SIT (Japan), KMUTT (Thailand), PSU (Thailand), MCUT (Taiwan), CGU (Taiwan), and UoU (South Korea). The workshop and its various activities were hosted by the Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT–Toyosu Campus), Tokyo, Japan, from 30 July to 8 August 2026.
Ajarn Pattarapol Chantkam has collaborated with the Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan, for more than 10 years. This year, he led a group of 11 undergraduate students from the Design Innovation (DI) and MIDI programs to participate in the 12th International Design Workshop and Field Trip Program.
The program aimed to enhance the knowledge and experience of undergraduate students and academic staff in design methodology and design processes while providing opportunities to engage in culturally related design projects through international collaborations. In addition, the SIT–JASSO program provided financial support of JPY 60,000–80,000 per participant (for those who have met the eligibility criteria).
Background:
“The theme of this year’s workshop is “Sound.” Sound is one of the most important means through which people perceive the world, evoke memories, and experience emotions. It also carries profound cultural and spiritual significance. Within communities and cultural contexts, people often share distinctive sounds, songs, and voices that are deeply connected to their identity, heritage, and collective memory. The human voice, in particular, holds powerful emotional meaning. Why do we long to hear the voice of someone we love? This question serves as a starting point for exploring how sound shapes human experiences, cultural narratives, and design practice.”
