SoA+D Summer Study Trip 2025 — The Curiosity of the Youth: Kansai Architecture Study Trip
The “Curiosity of the Youth: Kansai Architecture Study Trip” (from May 25–31, 2025) was a 7-day immersive journey that explored the contemporary architecture of Kansai, Japan, blending tradition, innovation, and modern design. Six students from SoA+D joined the trip—five undergraduate students and one master’s student—eager to expand their architectural knowledge through firsthand experiences.
The trip featured exclusive visits to Tadao Ando’s masterpieces—including Sayamaike Museum, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Water Temple, Rokkō Housing, and Awaji Yumebutai—alongside contemporary and historical landmarks like Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Umekita Park, Kyoto’s Garden of Fine Arts, and Todai-ji Temple.
During the study trip, participants experienced the World Expo Osaka 2025, which showcased cutting-edge architectural and technological advancements. Additionally, they joined a special Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) tour for insights into academic research and design.
The itinerary was structured to enhance architectural observation, analysis, and comparative studies, making it ideal for students pursuing a Master of Architecture, professionals, and enthusiasts eager to understand how Japan seamlessly integrates nature, culture, and modernity. Designed for efficiency and affordability, the trip utilized local transportation (no Shinkansen) for a seamless travel experience.
