Background of this project realized from experience exchanged in Japan in 2018. There are good public spaces and parks near their community to spend time on weekends. So my intention is to create this project for improving socialization of urban area in Bangkok. Moreover, I would like to introduce the community in developing public spaces in Bangkok.

Makkasan is an interesting district that will develop to be a new Central Business District. There are a lot of parties that need to develop by their strategies focusing on economic and community issues. It is in contrast with the situation that confronting by the community and the potential of the land. Moreover, situation in community will force the changes of urban lifestyle of citizen in Bangkok to isolate themselves same as citizen other business districts around the world. However, when we look back to ‘Livable city’, major strategy concerns the quality of life of citizen by three principles including social, environment, and economy. It provides advantages to citizen such as sustainable community, mental healthcare local economy and physical healthcare. But the strategy still need to improve sociality on ‘how does architecture could change or promote sociality of urban living in makkasan’.

Human need

Those primary needs include shelter and property (live); employment and financial security (work); health, well-being, basic socializing and “belongingness” (play); food and water (eat); and finally, clothing and “security of resources” (shop).

Changing or user’s habitat

Hyper convenience and vertical living – Due to rising population density, traffic jams, and social media, have become the need for urban life because of the competition in the central district. Many people are paying for a resident near the workplace, mass transit, or accessible facilities and services such as home cleaning service or food delivery. Likewise, in urban life, people find a residence near public transportation or workplace to save time from traveling and enjoy their happiness.

Gig economy – defines a labor market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs. In Thailand, nowadays, the number of freelancers is around 2 million people and still raising around 300 thousand people per year. Thailand’s freelance market growth rate is 3.9% annually.

Fluid lifestyle, in the aging of Millennials or Generation Y, who love being free, flexible, and fast, they will not stop and stick with one thing for a long time. Therefore, some organizations have the policy to work from home or outside the office. The factor that gives access to technology is such as the internet and social media. Moreover, it decreases the cost of office rental or maintenance in the company and the cost of travel to for employees.

Social condenser

The method is to interrupt or breakdown daily life or habitat for encouraging or educating users to transition to new things or new ways by using architecture to catalyst to collect people in the community.

Program Analysis

Programs in building rely on Social condenser theory; it needs to study the basics of human needs, changing the habitat of humans nowadays, and the need for community programs to promote socialization.

Community program

Play function – Main program promote socialization of community.there are criteria for choosing a program for socialization by concepts. The concepts are a group activity, active activity, and leisure activity that is the main program to catalyze people interacting with each other.

Economic space – Co-working space and Lifestyle shopping

Working, shopping, and eating functions support programs in getting an income to pay for the full building maintenance, creating a circulation of the user, and supporting daily life to attract the user. Therefore, the space performance needs to be divided into a small area and spread to mix with community space. 2 parts are divided into Commercial area and Working space.



To break down the habitat and daily life activities of urban people who isolate themselves intentionally and unintentionally to back to socialization. And give opportunities to use community space for user.

Visual connection

Connect people by visual to view each other’s activities, encourage curiosity and stimulating people to do different activities encounter and become social interaction. Moreover, user gets security and not loneliness.

LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND)

It was engineered to inspire and help create better, more sustainable, well-connected neighborhoods. It looks beyond the scale of buildings to consider entire communities.

Facade Design

Façade concept is the degree of transparent to represent interlocking concept on façade and get natural light to interior space. From the research told that having large windows in a room, as opposed to no windows, has been known to increase social desirability–the bigger, the better. Studies have shown that a person’s mood and emotion can be easily improved by introducing natural light. Human feels alert and energetic.
