Workplace lighting

Workplace lighting—encompassing both electric lighting and daylighting—is a crucial element in designing environments that support efficient visual tasks and promote employee well-being. It directly influences both our visual and circadian systems. Furthermore, lighting design significantly impacts a building’s energy consumption, aligning with the carbon emission reduction goals of governments and organizations worldwide.

A 2021 brainstorming session among office and lighting design experts, organized by IESNA (USA), outlined the future trends for workspaces and lighting systems. The experts concluded that while overall office space usage may decrease, the variety of spatial functions will increase. This shift demands highly flexible lighting systems rather than relying solely on uniform ambient lighting. Additionally, designs that provide employees with access to natural light and outdoor views will become increasingly essential for fostering workplace well-being.
