Joint workshop: KMUTT x NAFA workshop on “The Origin of Clothing Style”
The collaborative workshop between the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, Singapore, and the School of Architecture and Design, KMUTT is in its 10th year. Eventually, the theme was changed every year. For this year (2022), our workshop came up with the theme, “KMUTT x NAFA workshop: The Origin of Clothing Style Workshop”, which was sponsored by Nanyang Textile Group. The design proposal focused on student uniform design while considering the education and lifestyle trends during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshop has 4 phases:
1. Design proposal, conceptual study, and factory field trip (Thailand)
2. Design development and expert consultation (Singapore)
3. Design development and prototyping phase (Thailand)
4. Final prototyping and exhibition (Singapore)

We recently finished the first phase of the workshop, which lasted seven days, from December 12 to 19, 2022. To propose a new design, our 9 students from the Interior Architecture, Design Innovation Practice School, Design Innovation, and Architecture programs worked together with NAFA students from the Furniture and Spatial Design, Object and Jewellery, and Fashion Design programs on doing research and brainstorming.
In the first phase, students gathered information about Thailand’s textile industry by visiting the Nanyang textile factory and Wat Son textile market. Also, they interviewed the users based on information from parents and students for research and developing design proposals.

Let’s meet again for the second phase of the workshop in Singapore!
