SoA+D in Ranong

SoA+D in Ranong!

Students from Design and Heritage elective course took their curiosities to Ranong.

For centuries, Thailand’s economy and industry has been driven by tin mining industry, especially in South Thailand, bringing in Chinese workers and British engineers. The industry closed in the 80s but the heritage of this history still remains, like in Ranong Province where the story of mining and migrant’s still impact on local architecture and way of life. Thus, as part of the « Design and Heritage » course, Ranong will be the main case study, enabling students to ask themselves about the social and cultural impact of the extractive industry. Throughout the trip, students will have to apply the field methodology they have learned in class, to produce a report of their discoveries. This report will be a part of the final assessment of the semester, and will be valued as an introduction to the students taking part in an international workshop, which will also be held in Ranong in September.
